OUR MISSION

Our mission is to use higher education to change the developing world.

We will partner with in-country organizations that help identify high school graduates who have the heart and potential to change their world.  We require the in-country organizations to stay engaged with the students during their college career to ensure success - while Flywheel Scholarships provides the funding to do so.  We're nothing without these partnerships.

THE BACKSTORY

In 2013, my youngest child entered the final semester of her senior year of college.  I was writing a check for these last four months - a $13,000 check.  Some of it I had - some of it I borrowed.

At the same time, someone talked to me about educating orphans in developing countries who had gone through high school and showed the potential to excel in college.  In short, the check I wrote for my daughter's final semester of college would have paid for two four-year university educations for orphans in their home countries.

The organization running the orphanage saw the worthy investment in the heart and academic potential of the orphan - and made the financial commitment to see it through.

It struck me... Once our family pays off college, why don't we support another child in college?  We know what a difference a college education can be in the USA - imagine what it would be in the hands of an orphan or someone who grew up in abject poverty.  We could help change one life and watch that person change the lives around them and their world.

As the idea gelled, I couldn't shake this question: If one student can change their community, then what impact would 10 students have? or 20? or 100?

That's where you come in.
